Unfortunately due to continued hotel restrictions and Covid challenges, we have to cancel the planned Burns event. 😢
Hopefully we can do a smaller scale event in February or March – stay tuned!
Note: Burns himself will never be cancelled! 😀

And a Happy Hogmanay!
Yesterday The Bangkok St Andrew’s Society golf team played against Phoenix Golf Society in Hua Hin.
Congratulations to Phoenix on their win 🏆
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and seems like this could become a regular fixture!
Cheerio to my great friend Rab, we got together as I’m sure you wanted us to. Our #Bangkok St Andrew’s Society will celebrate you forever, our clan will remember you dearly.

Hi, this is James from The Committee.
On behalf of The Committee, it gives me great sadness and pain to announce the passing of our fellow Committee member and dear friend Rab Thomas.
Rab passed away early this morning.
Everyone who knows Rab says the same thing about him – a Gentleman, the life of the party with his laughter. We will truly miss him, our Scottish family has lost a great member.
Our condolences to Khun Yommie and Rab’s family.
Rab loved Robert Burns, and so I may bring these words to his passing:
An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
The Bangkok St Andrew’s Society are sad to announce the loss of Callum Mackie on 7th September 2021. Callum lived in Pattaya, Thailand and was one of our long-term members.
Callum was born on 17th September 1953, a proud father of Stuart and Andrew, brother of Gordon, a Partick Thistle diehard, and was much loved by so many people around the world. A keen golfer, Callum ran his Solar Golf Tour business from 2004 with great success. Callum arranged the very first IGTO convention in Thailand, promoting Thailand golf to the world. This took Thailand up into the World’s top 10 golf destinations and he received the International Golf Tour Operators highly prized award in 2012.
Callum supported our Society golf teams many times, his last in 2016, when we won the coveted Inter-Society Cup for our first time in three years. Sadly, as he succumbed to some health issues, especially with his lungs, golf was taking a back seat, but Callum’s support or sense of humour never waned.
Callum’s funeral took place on Tuesday, 14th September. We pass on our sincere condolences to all the family.
RIP our dear friend.
St Andrew’s Golfers,
As is traditional in the annual golf challenge against the St Patrick’s society, the format was two player Texas scramble and this year two teams assembled at Suphaprurek GC for the match.
So 32 players, 8 matches, 24 points up for grabs.
When the dust settled, the result of the matches was 4 apiece, but the points just edged in St Patrick’s favour who regained the trophy with a narrow 13-11 points win.
Good shots on the day were rewarded and prizes spread around eventually once we remembered we needed the pins to see the names !
Thanks to hosts St Patrick Society, Kevin Mchugh and David Cleary, for organising and to David Clarkson and Dougie for the excellent assistance on our side.
Not much difference between retain and regain, so next year we are back to possibly our stronger position, regain. The ribbons are ready at least !
Regards
David Morton
